How to Earn 6 Figures on Snapchat Spotlight
Snapchat's TikTok clone, Spotlight, has been blowing up with news of Creators earning thousands to millions of dollars.
Responding to TikTok's 'Creator Fund' in November 2020 Snapchat announced its paying out $1,000,000 per day to Spotlights that go viral.
News of these major payouts has been circulating, for example:
Cam Casey, 19, of Los Angeles, has earned more than $3m on Spotlight. While his roommate Joey Rogoff, 21, of LA, has earned more than $1m
He started by uploading old TikToks to Spotlight. His content mostly includes science experiments and card tricks. Two weeks after uploading the clips, Snapchat informed him of his six-figure payday. He then continued uploading, sometimes 120 clips per day, building up to $3,000,000.
You don't need a public profile (more on that later) to post Spotlights. Meaning Snapchat protects individual user's privacy, while giving people with 1 or 1,000,000 followers the chance to go viral and earn money.
What is a Public Profile on Snapchat?
A public profile on Snapchat is similar to TikTok page. Your profile pic, links, and bio are all included.
'Highlights' are where it differs. Giving you more control over your page with permanent Snaps, photos, and videos. Like Instagram's highlights feature except more prominent.
You're able to curate what potential followers see when they find you.
How do I create a public profile on Snapchat?
Protecting anonymity is great, but if you're trying to influencer you'll want followers from that viral Spotlight, right?
The main methods Snapchat uses to offer public profiles are
- Snapchat Lens - creating augmented reality filters
- Story Engagement - engage or create Snapchat stories, especially shared stories
- Grow a following - already have a substantial Snapchat following?
When I checked my Snapchat settings there wasn't an option to create a public profile. Snapchat is slowly rolling this feature out to some users.
Meaning, like me, you'll have to apply with Snapchat. I found the link hidden deep in a support article.
Here's how to create a Snapchat public profile:
-
After a few hours, check your Snap profile
-
Click create a 'Public Profile'
After a few hours of waiting, I checked my Snap profile. A new banner appeared directly below my Bitmoji asking if I wanted to create a public profile.
Click and continue with profile setup. Good luck!
Here's the page I got it from to verify the link is legitimate (https://support.snapchat.com/en-US/article/creator-faqs)
